History[]

Journey to Independence[]

After years of fighting the growing corruption in Boston, Abigail and her husband Liam traveled from Boston Massachusetts to a small town in Texas called Independence. Liam had taken a job as the town sheriff, with Abigail set to find a job as a teacher. They stopped for the evening to rest, but were jostled from their respite by the sound of lurkers. Liam went to investigate but didn't find anyone. Abigail watched from the carriage as a man appeared and shot Liam in the back. She was horrified and the man shot her a moment later, and left her for dead. She awoke when the assailant was gone and wept over her husband's corpse. She staggered through the fields until she collapsed. A Native man named Calian found her and brought her to his reservation where the Elders applied salves to her wounds. She awoke and told him who she was and what happened. She explained she was meant to move to Independence with her husband, the new sheriff, and needed to tell them what happened. He escorted her to the border and told her to find Deputy Augustus as he was a good man. He wouldn't join her as some people might not want to see an Apache with a white woman. She thanked him for the help and walked the rest of the way into town.

Getting Justice for Liam[]

Abigail entered Independence and was greeted by Kate Carver, whose outspoken mannerisms made an impression on the newcomer. She told Abigail of the new post office, ruled her out as being a white dove, and directed her to the sheriff's office when Abigail asked. She welcomed her to town and carried on. Abigail was than rudely bumped into by a drunken Hoyt Rawlins, which incited bickering between the pair. She criticized him for drinking during the day. He attempted to seduce her but failed. She was quite sure she'd slap him, but now just wasn't the time. She left Hoyt and located Deputy Augustus. She began to tell him what happened to the sheriff, only to learn a new sheriff was already available, Tom Davidson. She recognized the man as being Liam's murderer but didn't confront him. He claimed the man meant to take the job wasn't fit and didn't even show up. Tom was a lawman in Texarkana, though their conversation ended when he asked if she needed something from him. She meant to report that her ring had been stolen, but claimed to remember where it had been left. She confronted the pickpocket, who she knew was Hoyt, with a slap. She demanded her ring back and chastised him for the indiscretion. She overheard his argument with a local gambler, and saw his willingness to shoot the rude gambler. She followed Hoyt to see if he was capable of murder, and determined he was.
