One Riot, One Ranger is the premiere episode of Walker, Texas Ranger, and it's the first episode of season 1. It premiered on April 21, 1993.

One Riot, One Ranger is a double-length episode. In syndication and on streaming, it is often split into two separate episodes, respectively titled One Riot, One Ranger Part 1 and One Riot, One Ranger Part 2. The episode has also been released on VHS and DVD as a TV movie.

The episode did not have a title when it first aired. It was given the title "One Riot, One Ranger" for a VHS release later in 1993.

Synopsis[]

This pulse-pounding two-hour premiere episode introduces Cordell Walker, a contemporary Texas Ranger. After his old partner is killed in a bank heist, working with his new partner James Trivette, Walker seeks vengeance on the killer-and uncovers the next daring scheme.

Trivia[]

  • Sole appearance of Gailard Sartain as C.D. Parker. Said character was neither seen nor mentioned again until the first regular season, when Noble Willingham took over the role.
  • In addition to a GMC truck, and a Dodge Ram, Walker also drove a Ford Bronco.
  • Marshall R. Teague would return to WTR as...Harper Ridland (in "Payback"); as Randy Shrader (in "Codename: Dragonfly"); as Rudd Kilgore (in "Last of a Breed"); and as Lieutenant Tracton (in "Fight or Die"). He also played the dual role of Emil and Milos "Moon" Lavocat in the series finale.
  • Real-life Texas native Jimmy Dean (Diamonds Are Forever) was considered for the role of Ranger Captain Tom Price, before the producers decided on James Drury.
  • Filming for "One Riot, One Ranger" began in Texas on February 1, 1993.[1]
